Ways to Have Fun and Create Magic

We’ve always had hobbies.  Some of them have been brief, others have spanned decades.  Many have worked with one another such as photography to record the products of metalsmithing or textiles.  Some have provided transitions to other hobbies, such as sewing leading to weaving leading to spinning leading to dyeing leading to knitting handspun.  Many have been satisfying in that they have given us the satisfaction of creating unique things and the fun of sharing with others.  It’s been a joy to craft a cradle for Ryan, weave a baby blanket for Riley, build a youth chair for Matthew W, sew a backpack for Matthew T, knit a long red scarf for Greg, craft a malachite necklace for Megan, and of course to create an HO train layout that got better and better from Deck Day to Deck Day.  Genealogy has had the special benefit of helping us to build relationships with faraway relatives, and even to find new relatives.
