For many years now we have had an Easter Vigil tradition with our friend Kay. We attend the Easter Vigil Mass that begins with the lighting of candles to illuminate the darkened church and includes Baptisms and Confirmations to welcome new Christians into the Church. After the Mass we gather with Kay and other friends for a party at her house. Sometimes it’s a large gathering, sometimes including one of the newly baptized. Other times, including this year, it’s an intimate gathering. Always it’s a warm and wonderful experience.
The Ruins of Pompeii
It was an incredible experience to actually walk the streets of Pompeii, once a bustling resort town in the Roman Empire until 79 AD when an apocalyptic explosion buried it under 20 feet of volcanic ash. Archeological excavations since the 19th Century continue to reveal evidence of a thriving community.
