Up early and out of the house by 6:30AM for the walk to Shawmut then the Alewife train to South Station. Greg and Rachel accompanied us that far. While they were posing for us they were distracted by a procession of “statues” walking by. These “statues” which then stood on pedestals were promoting the “A Day in Pompeii” exhibit at the science museum. It was a bit of whimsy as we concluded a wonderful visit with our kids. Enjoyed the ride in coach to New York and a good lunch at Kabooz’s at Penn Station. Then we boarded The Crescent for our first ever Sleeper Car experience. It was great! Our porter, Jef, exuded lots of Southern Hospitality. Besides having a quiet private compartment with a large window all to ourselves and a bunk in which to stretch out to sleep, in the Sleeper Car we enjoyed a level of service that we’d not experienced in Coach. It’s great. And we’re headed home.
Burgh House Hampstead
Off the beaten path is Hampstead is the more than three hundred year old Burgh House with a fascinating history. It’s now a community center, local museum, gallery, concert venue, event space, and more open to the public four days a week. We popped over for a bite to eat and to peruse the galleries to learn a little more about Hampstead history.
