Visiting Ft DeSoto and The Sunshine City

Road Trip

After spending a bit of time just enjoying our campsite, we wandered out to the Old Fort area. We revisited the site of Dave’s 1995 Eagle Scout Project, the Mine Storage building that was part of the fort just after the turn of the 20th Century. The foundation markers are in excellent shape. The area needs some weeding and there are no markers or signs to indicate it’s significance but it certainly evokes some good memories for us. We spent a little time walking in the sunshine along the shore and poking through the small but excellent museum.  Then we headed into St Petersburg. It’s interesting to drive roads and notice what has changed and what is the same. We’ve been gone now for more than four years but that’s after a residence of fifty years. There’s a lot of memories here.  We lunched on shrimp scampi and a grouper sandwich at Fourth Street Shrimp Store which was one of our favorite haunts. We’ve had many a fun extended family meal here!

Cozumel & Grand Cayman

Cozumel & Grand Cayman

Aboard the Norwegian Jewel we’ve made stops in Cozumel, Mexico and Georgetown, Grand Cayman to explore beyond our previous experiences here. Soon we’ll be making our way to ports we’ve not yet explored in the Southern Caribbean.

Winter Magic in Medina

Winter Magic in Medina

By deliberate choice we were in Medina for all the winter holiday festivities from Candlelight Walk in the days before Thanksgiving through A Christmas Carol and A Celtic Christmas as well as an Alex Bevan Concert and a historic house tour all the way through Medina’s 31st Ice Festival but perhaps the highlight was the town hosting hundreds of folks whose homes and lives were devasted by Hurricane Helene at the A Promise of Christmas Event the middle of January. It’s an honor to be a part of this amazing community!
