On Top of Ol’ Hobe

Florida, Road Trip, States

We headed south on US-1 hoping to connect with a friend of Steve’s from high school days. Didn’t make the connection but did discover Jonathan Dickinson State Park near Hobe Sound. We climbed the observation tower atop Hobe Mountain which at 86 feet elevation is the highest point in Florida south of Lake Okeechobee. It was a glorious, on top of the world, kind of feeling. We explored the park a bit, reveling in the Old Florida feel. Fron there we headed north along US-1 and A1A and landed at the campground in Wickham Park in Melbourne as recommended by folks we met in the Everglades. For dinner shared the Guinness Beef Pie at Meg O’Malley’s in downtown. Just a little slice of heaven. We bookmarked it on Yelp!

National Portrait Gallery

National Portrait Gallery

It was a most educational visit to the newly renovated National Portrait Gallery at Trafalgar Square in Central London. We were intrigued with the contemporary approach to presenting British History.

Bletchley Park

Bletchley Park

It was at Bletchley Park that the Allied Codebreakers deciphered German military messages during the Second World War. A free guided tour gave us a good overview of the campus and the activities that occurred here from 1938 to 1945.

Fenton House and Spaniards Inn

Fenton House and Spaniards Inn

A lovely way to spend a Sunday in Hampstead. We visited the historic Fenton House to view lots of lovely collectibles, to listen to and learn about harpsicords, and to tour and linger in the garden before heading off to the historic Spaniard’s Inn for a most delectable Sunday Roast.
