We found it! We’re staying the two weekend nights at the KOA in Eureka CA. Started Saturday with brunch at The Hangar Cafe, a little hole in the wall at the municipal airport. Great corned beef hash! Then found a little barbershop and Steve got a haircut. Anyone remember Ray Stevens song about never let a stranger cut your hair? We succeeded in finding a geocache in town then tried but failed to get new sneakers for the two of us. Time to give up on in town stuff and head to the beaches.

Caligula at Strawberry Hill

Caligula at Strawberry Hill

The purpose of our trek to Strawberry Hill House in Twickenham in the southwest of London was to see a recently recovered bronze bust of the Emperor Caligula but we discovered so much more in the recently restored 18th Century “little Gothic castle” built by Horace Walpole.

Imperial War Museum

Imperial War Museum

London’s Imperial War Museum in Southwark founded even as the First World War raged offers insights into the myriad costs of the wars of the 20th and 21st Centuries. It was a most disquieting but valuable reminder of the myriad costs of war.

London’s Canals

This stay in London has given us new opportunities to explore and learn more about how canals contributed to the growth of this great city and how they are being used and preserved today.
