Through the Gates

Family

Mother left us this morning to make her journey through the Pearly Gates. She was surrounded by all her family. After she died the women of the family dressed her in her favorite outfit with the pearl decorated neckline, snazzy black and white slippers, pearl earrings, Princess Diana ring, pearly nail polish, Poissin fragrance, and makeup. She was beautifully dressed for the journey and it was a comforting ritual for us.

    To all the Wilsons:
What a beautiful day for your mom!!! To be surrounded by all that you love when you are taking the journey to be with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. And how fitting for Aunt Cathie……. Pearls and sparkles! A tribute fit for a queen.
I know in my heart that all of the Heinks are reunited again in Heaven, having a fabulous party!
I am sending my love and prayers that God will be gracious to you all in this time of sorrow.
    Love Peggy

Caligula at Strawberry Hill

The purpose of our trek to Strawberry Hill House in Twickenham in the southwest of London was to see a recently recovered bronze bust of the Emperor Caligula but we discovered so much more in the recently restored 18th Century “little Gothic castle” built by Horace Walpole.

Imperial War Museum

London’s Imperial War Museum in Southwark founded even as the First World War raged offers insights into the myriad costs of the wars of the 20th and 21st Centuries. It was a most disquieting but valuable reminder of the myriad costs of war.

London’s Canals

The two of us have long been fascinated with the history of canals and their role in the history of transportation, industrialization, and more recently recreation. This stay in London has given us new opportunities to explore and learn more about how canals contributed to the growth of this great city and how they are being used and preserved today.
