It’s been on our list for decades and today we visited Mystic Seaport Museum. Knowing we’d be dodging raindrops and frustrated by not enough time we immersed ourselves in a visit. We toured the 1841 built whaler the Charles W. Morgan and learned about the whaling industry. We saw a replica Viking ship, the strong box that once held the papers for the whaler on which Herman Melville sailed, a cooper in action, some amazing scrimshaw, a three hundred year old incredibly intricate ship model, and lots more. We fortified ourselves with clam chowder and dvds to augment our knowledge base and departed with the promise to each other that we’ll visit again.
