Our pursuit of Vermont and Ethan Allen history was interrupted by a delightful lunch on the patio of Bayview Bar and Grill overlooking Mallett’s Bay in Colchester followed by a wander along the waterfront just enjoying the sunshine and scenery before making our way to a little hike along the Colchester Causeway, a rails to trail tracing the route once taken by milk and butter trains. The sunshine didn’t last. Storm clouds began to gather and we trekked back to the car. Later our quest to find a restaurant where we could treat Jane to dinner was thwarted by the leaf peepers who flocked to the area to enjoy the beautiful foliage. We chose to get Chinese takeout and enjoy one another’s company back at Janes’s. And indeed the rain came. Late this evening Jane drove us back to our T@B and participated in the placing of the Vermont sticker on our map. It’s been a fabulous visit, thanks for being a great guide, Jane!
Queen Mary 2’s arrival in the Port of Dakar, Senegal was heralded in the local press and greeted with ceremony. Our own excursion took us on a coach journey through the streets of the capital city to visit a Wolof village and the shore of Lake Retba, the salty lake famed for an intense pink color.
Today’s safari adventure transported us out into the Dorob National Park to have up close encounters with little creatures that are well adapted to the extreme heat and lack of water in the Namib Desert.
With a UNESCO World Heritage Site, two national parks, dozens of museums, and hundreds of tours offered in the Cape Town area there is more than plenty to do. For our two day visit we opted to concentrate on African wildlife visiting the Aquila Private Game Reserve and the Boulders Beach Penguin Colony for a wonderful chance to these fabulous animals in their own habitat.
