Tonight we’re Harvest Host guests at Hartland Winery in Ashley, Indiana. When we arrived just before five this Saturday evening, the place was already hopping even before Autumn Grey took the stage. We got some Peach Wine Slushies and proceeded to set our T@B in place for a gorgeous sunset view of the vineyard. Our Travels with Delaney friends Patrick and Patty live in nearby Angola and agreed to join us for an evening of wine and conversation. Our hosts Alan & Brenda Lockhart were delightful. Brenda set us up with some Edelweiss & Montage wines and glasses and we sat outside the trailer enjoying perfect weather and the sounds of a party in the distance. Alan came by to hobnob a bit as the sun was setting and regaled us with tales of an awesome cross country trip the two of them took once upon a time, whetting our appetites to see places we’ve not yet visited. Queen Mary 2’s arrival in the Port of Dakar, Senegal was heralded in the local press and greeted with ceremony. Our own excursion took us on a coach journey through the streets of the capital city to visit a Wolof village and the shore of Lake Retba, the salty lake famed for an intense pink color.
Today’s safari adventure transported us out into the Dorob National Park to have up close encounters with little creatures that are well adapted to the extreme heat and lack of water in the Namib Desert.
With a UNESCO World Heritage Site, two national parks, dozens of museums, and hundreds of tours offered in the Cape Town area there is more than plenty to do. For our two day visit we opted to concentrate on African wildlife visiting the Aquila Private Game Reserve and the Boulders Beach Penguin Colony for a wonderful chance to these fabulous animals in their own habitat.
