The National Museum at Turlough

Family, International, Ireland

On out way from Ballina along N58 and then N5 toward Westport we spotted a brown sign. That’s an international indication of a point of interest for tourists. So we made the spontaneous decision to stop at The National Museum of Ireland – Country Life, the only National Museum outside of Dublin. We decided to first investigate the cafe where we four split a Full Irish Breakfast and a Salmon Roulade Plate. The Beet Salad was spectacular. Then on to the gift shop and finally to the main event. This museum deserves much more time than we could give it today but without a doubt it expanded our understanding of the history of country life in Ireland, of the Great Famine, the Easter Uprising, and the Civil War. The special exhibit was dedicated to The Irish Travelers, a bit intriguing! This stop definitely gave us much more insight into the lives of our Irish ancestors.

Bletchley Park

Bletchley Park

It was at Bletchley Park that the Allied Codebreakers deciphered German military messages during the Second World War. A free guided tour gave us a good overview of the campus and the activities that occurred here from 1938 to 1945.

Fenton House and Spaniards Inn

Fenton House and Spaniards Inn

A lovely way to spend a Sunday in Hampstead. We visited the historic Fenton House to view lots of lovely collectibles, to listen to and learn about harpsicords, and to tour and linger in the garden before heading off to the historic Spaniard’s Inn for a most delectable Sunday Roast.
