After a leisurely start involving coffee out on the deck we got ourselves motivated for a trip into town for provisions but first we had to take the "short"hike up the mountain to see the witch house. Actually with all the work that Wayne, Ceil, and their son have...

A Quieter Day
Gradually most of the family members who have gathered in Zephyrhills have headed home. There have been so many goodbye hugs over the last day and a half. But four of us have lingered. Lou and we two spent a good amount of today helping Mother and Dad sort through...
Labor Day
The day after the great celebration we who were staying at the Microtel gradually gathered in the lobby for breakfast and visited. Eventually we all migrated over to the parents' house. There were various jobs that needed doing around the place. Amid the various...
Sixty-Five and Counting
Sixty-five years after next door neighbors Bud and Cathie were married in Cincinnati, their six kids and their spouses and a handful of their dozen grandkids gathered in Zephyrhills to help them celebrate. Under the direction of Fr. Hayes they renewed their marriage...
Croquet After Dark
The history of the game of croquet may go back hundreds of years in Europe but it definitely goes back more than fifty years in the history of or family. Mom gave Dad a croquet set that she got with trading stamps for Father's Day sometime in the late 1950's and we...
Card Craziness
One of the hallmark activities of our family gatherings is riotous card playing. The favored game is a mult-handed game based on Klondike Solitaire. Today we had as many as seven folks in a crazy wild fast paced series of games. Newcomers to the game Brian and Alexis...
Late Night at the Microtel
The gathering of siblings began late afternoon with Microtel check-ins. The party moved to the parents' house for a Sonny's BBQ takeout dinner. Yum! As the evening progressed more family members arrived but we were still waiting for Alice. The flight she was on was...
Pancakes!
We left Tween Creeks yesterday midday on our trek to Zephyrhills. Rather than make the trip in one long day we decided we wanted to take it easy. Stopped for the night in Tifton GA. It felt really weird to stay in a hotel! This morning we stopped at am IHOP for...
August in The Mountains
What a glorious day in the mountains! We were busy with preparations for tomorrow's departure in search of new adventures so we didn't get to celebrate the day with a hike or anything like that. But it was good just to enjoy the opportunities to be out of doors and to...
It’s Thyme?
Actually it's time to weed the sidewalk and the driveway. When we left home in early June, the sidewalk looked great. We planted some elfin thyme and then left it to fill in gaps between the stones. Some of it took root but so did a lot of grass and other weeds!

Over the last several years we’ve had the distinct pleasure of many cross country journeys traveling though the Lower 48 in tents and our various teardrop campers as well as an amazing Alaska adventure that did not involve a camper.

Bluegrass on Prairie Island
As we left the Minneapolis-St Paul area we deliberately avoided the urban section of the Great River Road and instead skirted the Twin Cities to the south and east to Hastings where we picked up the scenic road again. As the road meandered along the west bank of the...
Historic Fort Snelling
Today’s adventure yielded so much more than we ever expected even from a Minnesota Historical Society site. The human history at what became Fort Snelling here at the confluence of the Minnesota and the Mississippi Rivers began at least 10,000 years ago according to...
The Falls of St Anthony
Despite misgivings about venturing into the traffic of a metropolitan area, we headed into the heart of Minneapolis, Minnesota. After finding a garage parking site (We love the ParkMobile app) and breakfasting at the nearby Farmers Kitchen + Bar, we walked the short...
