Altered Plans

Family

The plan had been to drop off the car for repair then walk the three miles to St John’s to meet friends Stan and Mary and to go to lunch. Initially the rain made us rethink part of that plan. Then we waited until the mechanics decided they couldn’t repair the Trailblazer today, we’ll have to bring it back Thursday and leave it overnight so they will be able to start it from very cold to hear the fan chatter. Then we drove to St John’s, met Stan and found out that we were volunteering to unpack four dozen new folding chairs in the Fellowship Hall. Guess the ensuing exercise substituted for the long walk we never got to take. The rain lasted all day. But we did have a delightful lunch at City Bakery in downtown Waynesville.

National Portrait Gallery

National Portrait Gallery

It was a most educational visit to the newly renovated National Portrait Gallery at Trafalgar Square in Central London. We were intrigued with the contemporary approach to presenting British History.

Bletchley Park

Bletchley Park

It was at Bletchley Park that the Allied Codebreakers deciphered German military messages during the Second World War. A free guided tour gave us a good overview of the campus and the activities that occurred here from 1938 to 1945.

Fenton House and Spaniards Inn

Fenton House and Spaniards Inn

A lovely way to spend a Sunday in Hampstead. We visited the historic Fenton House to view lots of lovely collectibles, to listen to and learn about harpsicords, and to tour and linger in the garden before heading off to the historic Spaniard’s Inn for a most delectable Sunday Roast.
