As night was falling over the South Dakota plains we heard a voice call out to us. It was Paul on his bicycle with his trusty canine companion, Marvin. Knowing that Paul had put in a full day of teaching until 9:30PM Sunday and needed to be back in for orientation early Monday morning, we’d promised to not plan on partying late. But we had a delightful evening of conversation swapping family stories and tales of travel. He’s lived and taught many different places around the world and across the country. As we sat in the darkness and talked time slipped away. Finally just before midnight we stepped into the T@B and snapped a selfie to commemorate the moment then hugged one another. With that Paul and Marvin disappeared into the darkness for their short trip home. Hopefully we’ll see them again before too terribly long.
Imperial War Museum
London’s Imperial War Museum in Southwark founded even as the First World War raged offers insights into the myriad costs of the wars of the 20th and 21st Centuries. It was a most disquieting but valuable reminder of the myriad costs of war.
