Afternoon in Bend

2018 West, Oregon, Road Trip

Ever since we watched the Oregon episode of Aerial America, we’ve wanted to look down on the town of Bend from the top of Pilot Butte, the cinder cone in the middle of town. Today we did. We’d intended to hike up but didn’t find the trailhead. Next thing we knew we’d driven to the top! It might have been a good thing we drove, for it was chilly and rainy but the view was spectacular. From there we headed to Jake’s Diner for a great lunch then on to REI housed in a couple of historic buildings in Bend’s Old Mill District where Steve succeeded in finding a new pair of Oboz waterproof shoes. After a little more browsing in the district, we lingered for a few minutes near a lovely firepit with a view of the Deschutes River. Now to return to Tumalo State Park and our tent site. Who knew that if we wanted an electric and water site, it would be necessary to make reservations for a Monday and Tuesday stay in October? That’s okay, it gave us an opportunity to deploy our Zamp panels this morning!

We popped over for a bite to eat and to peruse the galleries to learn a little more about Hampstead history.

Wicked The Musical

Wicked The Musical

Ever since its debut on Broadway the two of us have wanted to see “Wicked the Musical”. Today we realized that dream. In the Apollo Victoria Theater in London’s West End we were witness to the incredible prequel to The Wizard of Oz, the story of the Glinda the Good and the Wicked Witch of the West.

Six Lives: The Stories of Henry VIII’s Queens

Six Lives: The Stories of Henry VIII’s Queens

London’s National Portrait Gallery’s temporary exhibition, “Six Lives: The Stories of Henry VIII’s Queens” presents an amazing collection of portraits, jewelry, personal effects, books, costumes, and more to illustrate not only the lives of the six women who married the second Tudor king, but the effort across five centuries to keep their memory alive.
