Overnight in Port Aboard the Allure
Weather conditions caused Allure of the Seas to miss the port that would have given us the chance to visit Pisa. Instead we had the opportunity to spend an extra day aboard this floating resort in the port of Civitavecchia enjoying the ship and pondering what we’d learned this trip about our own travel style.
Palace of the Popes, Avignon
Our stop in Marseille, France afforded us an opportunity to visit Avignon which was home to seven popes in the 14th Century and a site important in the life and legacy of St Catherine of Siena.
Palma de Mallorca
The island of Mallorca has a long and storied history including the Romans and the Moors. In recent years it has transitioned from an agricultural economy to tourism. The highlights of our tour of the capital city of Palma included Castell de Bellver and Catedral de Mallorca.

The Ruins of Pompeii
It was an incredible experience to actually walk the streets of Pompeii, once a bustling resort town in the Roman Empire until 79 AD when an apocalyptic explosion buried it under 20 feet of volcanic ash. Archeological excavations since the 19th Century continue to reveal evidence of a thriving community.
Exploring the Allure of the Seas
