It seems that most of the commonly shared stories of the Civil War involve action east of the Mississippi but today we visited the site of the December 7, 1862 Battle of Prairie Grove. It’s a wonderfully preserved battlefield with a wealth of historic buildings. We enjoyed the film and museum before venturing out to investigate the grounds. It was cool to learn more about Arkansas during this era in history.

With a UNESCO World Heritage Site, two national parks, dozens of museums, and hundreds of tours offered in the Cape Town area there is more than plenty to do. For our two day visit we opted to concentrate on African wildlife visiting the Aquila Private Game Reserve and the Boulders Beach Penguin Colony for a wonderful chance to these fabulous animals in their own habitat.
