This is Lou’s Happy Place. She specifically wanted to visit this, the most photographed lighthouse in the country while we were traveling together. In the  the years that she has lived in California Lou has spent much of her leisure time on the Pacific Coast. Once she discovered that Pigeon Point was a great location from which to watch whales, she visited frequently and ultimately became a volunteer docent. Now she’s quite conversant in the migrations of gray whales, the habits of harbor seals, the technology of Fresnel lenses, the lighthouse keepers duties, the history of the lighthouse at Pigeon Point, and much more. So today’s visit to the Heceta Head Lighthouse in nearly perfect weather was a definite high point. We hiked the half mile up to the lighthouse for the guided tour. She talked with volunteers, and we just enjoyed a glorious day on the edge of the Pacific. As well as an Interpretive Center, this amazing place is also a B&B and event center. Then we headed north on US-101 to the seaside town of Yachats for Halibut and Chips at Luna Sea Fish House, proclaimed the best she’s ever tasted! We followed that treat with Tillamook Ice Cream from Topper’s then a couple of geocaches before we headed in the direction of the T@B. Definitely a happy place for Lou, and for us too!
Bletchley Park
It was at Bletchley Park that the Allied Codebreakers deciphered German military messages during the Second World War. A free guided tour gave us a good overview of the campus and the activities that occurred here from 1938 to 1945.
