Farm Bloomington

2016 Out West, Indiana, Road Trip

A second evening in Bloomington! A second rendezvous at Fountain Square Mall. This time a chance to photograph a fun yarn bomb and the opportunity to dine at Farm Bloomington. Creativity, quality, and local products are hallmarks of this independent eatery. We started with creative cocktails followed by incredible dinner offering and topped off with amazing desserts. Steve’s Brown Russian was concocted with spirits from the local Cardinal Distillery. The Tuesday special we shared was a Meatloaf crafted with not only beef and pork but also bison. Phil enjoyed a delectable Octopus dish. And our dessert was an amazingly moist and delicious Parsnip Cake! Knowing that the two of them would be working particularly long days tomorrow, we walked with them to our truck and got our goodbye hugs there on S College Street. Don’t know if we’ll be able to get in a bonus visit tomorrow. It all depends on how the truck repair goes.

Caligula at Strawberry Hill

Caligula at Strawberry Hill

The purpose of our trek to Strawberry Hill House in Twickenham in the southwest of London was to see a recently recovered bronze bust of the Emperor Caligula but we discovered so much more in the recently restored 18th Century “little Gothic castle” built by Horace Walpole.

Imperial War Museum

Imperial War Museum

London’s Imperial War Museum in Southwark founded even as the First World War raged offers insights into the myriad costs of the wars of the 20th and 21st Centuries. It was a most disquieting but valuable reminder of the myriad costs of war.

London’s Canals

London’s Canals

The two of us have long been fascinated with the history of canals and their role in the history of transportation, industrialization, and more recently recreation. This stay in London has given us new opportunities to explore and learn more about how canals contributed to the growth of this great city and how they are being used and preserved today.
