After a great film at the interpretive center here at Tallulah Gorge State Park in the Appalachian Mountains of north Georgia, we headed out to the North Rim Trail to get a look at one of the grandest canyons in the eastern United States. It’s awe inspiring especially on this late April day with dogwoods, azaleas, and mountain laurel in bloom. What our hike didn’t boast in length it made up for in descent down to the suspension footbridge over Hurricane Falls and the three hundred and ten step staircase climb back up again. We’ve earned a treat. Rumor has it there’s good ice cream at a tourist trap a few miles north of here.
Burgh House Hampstead
Off the beaten path is Hampstead is the more than three hundred year old Burgh House with a fascinating history. It’s now a community center, local museum, gallery, concert venue, event space, and more open to the public four days a week. We popped over for a bite to eat and to peruse the galleries to learn a little more about Hampstead history.
