It's a major transportation hub in the middle of the city that never sleeps. We arrived just before 11PM, more than nine hours later than scheduled and we now have more than three and a half hours to wait until the last northbound Northeast Regional of the "day" on...

Winter Solstice
This year we are celebrating Winter Solstice traveling north. We climbed aboard The Crescent in darkness at 5:30AM and had breakfast in the Dining Car as dawn broke over the landscape. Twelve hours later we are underground at Washington DC's Union Station as darkness...
Aboard Amtrak
We finally boarded The Crescent at 5:30AM and we're now slowly making progress toward NYC. We're ensconced in our little roomette, too keyed up to sleep quite yet. The Dining Car will begin breakfast service in half an hour so we'll probably just go get some food then...
Amtrak Delays
It's not surprising but our train is late. Scheduled to depart the Greenville, South Carolina Station at 10:58 PM, it's running three and a half hours behind! We've been aware of this fact all evening. We've been watching the status on the Amtrak app. Then again, we...
National Maple Syrup Day
In our house Waffles are a rare treat but National Maple Syrup Day seems like an excellent reason to indulge. Maple Syrup brought home from our Vermont adventures in 2017. Some local blueberries and regional peaches "fresh" from our freezer helped make at a tasty...
Tucked in for the Winter
With her cover on, antifreeze in her pipes, a small space heater to keep extreme chill out of the interior, Sc@rlett is ready for her winter's sleep. It's good to be back at the house for a while and to snuggle in in front of the fireplace but we're already making...
Sunny Day
Actually it's a really rainy day outdoors, perfect for hanging out with all the lights on and jazz streaming from our iTunes account while we work on the Things to Do list. Suddenly it was a Sunny Day indoors when we realized we were listening to the Oscar Peterson...
Fall into Winter
The North Carolina mountains are renowned as a lovely location for a summer home especially for folks who hail from subtropical climes. In a contrary fashion, the two of us prefer to return here as winter sets in and to relish the comfort and warmth of our mountain...
Sir Speedy
What fun it is to watch the next generation make their mark in the world. Our nephew and his wife have an incredible entrepreneurial spirit. Since we've seen them last they have made a leap into the printing business and are owners of the Sir Speedy in Carrollton,...
Chillin’ with Family
Our sojourn in the DFW metroplex was a great opportunity to hang out with family. Chillin' by a fire pit on the pool deck roasting marshmallows after a fabulous picnic style supper and lovely libations. And it's always a delight to watch Huxley interact with his Mom...

Half a Day in Rome
Our recent travel misadventures seriously curtailed our time in Rome pre-cruise but we did get to visit the Vatican Museums and Sistine Chapel before making the trip to Civitavecchi for an overnight in the port city of Rome preparatory to departing on Allure of the Seas tomorrow.
To Rome But Not According to Plan
Travel plans sometimes go awry. In this case flooding near Milan caused our train trip to be interrupted leading to one Flix Bus journey, three taxi rides, an overnight stay in Milan, and an airline flight to arrive in Rome more than 24 hours later than planned. Not exactly the adventure we had planned but giving us yet another campfire story!
Walking the Streets of Paris
With only a day and a half for exploring Paris we first visited Notre Dame then did a bus tour the first evening. On Day 2 we sampled some of treasures of The Louvre and Musee Rodin before walking back to Notre Dame, a ten mile walk!
