But the fire is so delightful. Since we've no place to go, Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow! We woke up to snow on the ground and more coming out of the sky. Precipitation continued all day, sometimes as snow, sometimes rain, sometimes mixed but it continued to...

A Visit with Dave
Stopped by Dave's office before we headed down the road. It was good to get a peek at the environment where he spends much of his time and to get an idea of some of the research that he does! Had a pleasant drive home. It was clear and sunny much of the trip. Glad we...
Family Conference
Had one of those magical moments this evening. Sitting in Dave & Rhonda's living room we video conferenced with almost all the family members participating. Lots of fun and laughter and a chance for Greg, Rachel, CJ, and Phil to meet Peyton!
Celebrating Six!
Riley had the opportunity to celebrate her Sixth Birthday at a wonderful party with lots of her friends from school, scouts, piano, and dance. Her mother Rhonda had done a wonderful job of planning the party before Peyton was born just two and a half weeks ago.
Meeting Peyton
We've been introduced to our newest granddaughter, Peyton, by her very proud big sister, Riley. We may be biased but we are willing to proclaim that she is a very beautiful baby and we think she is a joy to hold.
Bringing the Tree Home
Last year it was a Charlie Brown Christmas tree that we cut down in the woods nearby. This year our Christmas tree is a live Fraser Fir that will grace our living room adorned with lights and ornaments. Then after the big day, we'll plant it in the woods below our...
The View from Our Window
This movie clip is just a four second glimpse into the weather we are enjoying today. No Saturday errands for us today! We've got enough provisions that we can stay put until the weather clears and the roads are safe.
Getting Ready for Christmas
Today was an "errands day". At least once a week we organize ourselves with lists of things to do and things to get and make the rounds of our favorite purveyors of good food and well as other necessary errands. Today we added the fun of getting some of the trappings...
The Woodpile
Last year we fueled the woodstove with dead wood we'd gathered from the property, some wood that we bought in small bundles, and some paraffin logs. This year we've installed a new wood rack, bought a truckload of firewood, and refreshed our wood splitting skills.
Knitting Fever
Karen's been knitting like a fiend. It's portable and great for road trips. The visit with CJ recently and frequent messages to and from her on Ravelry, the introduction by Greg a the fabulous shop - Mind's Eye Yarns in Cambridge, and frequent visits to Ravelry - the...

Grouseland
The majestic home of the first Governor of the Territory of Indiana was the magnet that pulled the two of us to Vincennes, Indiana. Grouseland was constructed in 1802-1804 after William Henry Harrison was appointed governor in 1800. Knowing that the home is undergoing...
Indiana State Museum
After visiting New Harmony, the second oldest town in the state, we headed to Vincennes the oldest city in Indiana, established by French fur traders in 1732. It was only natural for us to begin our visit at the Indiana State Museum where we joined a tour in progress....
Angel Mounds
If you've been following our blog recently, you may have noticed that we keep visiting locations that were home to Native Americans in prehistory, meaning before Europeans arrived on the North American continent and started recording their observations of the people...
