Although we will not linger too long in the Black Hills this trip, we both wanted to take the time to revisit The Crazy Horse Memorial. Although we visited the area in 1973 and were aware at the time that a carving of Crazy Horse was in progress we listened to those who said it wasn’t worth the visit. We did come to see it in 2008 and had the opportunity for a tour to the top. Today we got to see the considerable progress the team has made on the sculpture. There’s still only the face that is finished but the hand and the horse’s mane will be next. We lingered to lunch at the restaurant there and were privileged to be seated facing the windows that look out to the gigantic sculpture. It’s an incredible sight and a visit here is educational, inspiring, and worth a trip to the Black Hills of South Dakota.

Dakar, Senegal: A Wolof Village & The Pink Lake
Queen Mary 2’s arrival in the Port of Dakar, Senegal was heralded in the local press and greeted with ceremony. Our own excursion took us on a coach journey through the streets of the capital city to visit a Wolof village and the shore of Lake Retba, the salty lake famed for an intense pink color.
