Many times we’ve stopped at the Wytheville KOA but always for a single night’s stay on trips between North Carolina and northeastern Ohio. This time we paused for a long weekend. Got pizza the first night, had an opportunity for a delightful conversation with one of the owners, met some other T@B owners, went in search of an independent hardware store that’s no longer there, had coffee and a treat downtown, learned a little more about this crossroads town, set up an outdoor kitchen under the new awning, fired up some charcoal for a grill night, and hatched some plans for a rambling trip back to WNC. It’s been a good sojourn here and has opened our eyes to possibilities of future adventures at this locale.

Caligula at Strawberry Hill

Caligula at Strawberry Hill

The purpose of our trek to Strawberry Hill House in Twickenham in the southwest of London was to see a recently recovered bronze bust of the Emperor Caligula but we discovered so much more in the recently restored 18th Century “little Gothic castle” built by Horace Walpole.

Imperial War Museum

Imperial War Museum

London’s Imperial War Museum in Southwark founded even as the First World War raged offers insights into the myriad costs of the wars of the 20th and 21st Centuries. It was a most disquieting but valuable reminder of the myriad costs of war.

London’s Canals

This stay in London has given us new opportunities to explore and learn more about how canals contributed to the growth of this great city and how they are being used and preserved today.
