As we prepare to take our leave of the U.P., it’s necessary that we make sure we partake of a quintessentially U.P. delicacy, the Pastie. This delicious complete meal in one neat pastry package pays tribute to the highly skilled hard rock miners from Cornwall England who came to work the copper mines in these parts, we’re not far from the Nonesuch or Old Victoria, and their wives who would prepare and pack these hearty meals in the miners’ lunch tins to heat over a candle and eat in the darkness of the mine at midday. Syl’s Cafe in Ontonagon, Michigan gets around the rutabaga or potato issue by including both. We ordered the mini version which was more than enough. But we still found a little room to share Syl’s Oreo Brownie Hot Fudge Sundae.

It was a most educational visit to the newly renovated National Portrait Gallery at Trafalgar Square in Central London. We were intrigued with the contemporary approach to presenting British History.

Bletchley Park

Bletchley Park

It was at Bletchley Park that the Allied Codebreakers deciphered German military messages during the Second World War. A free guided tour gave us a good overview of the campus and the activities that occurred here from 1938 to 1945.

Fenton House and Spaniards Inn

Fenton House and Spaniards Inn

A lovely way to spend a Sunday in Hampstead. We visited the historic Fenton House to view lots of lovely collectibles, to listen to and learn about harpsicords, and to tour and linger in the garden before heading off to the historic Spaniard’s Inn for a most delectable Sunday Roast.
