Rolling into NYC

2025, Massachusetts, New York

Tuesday 2 September 2035

Our next big adventure began six days ago when we left Ohio and headed out of town headed to points east more or less following US 20 along the Lake Erie shore, through the Pennsylvania panhandle and into New York State. We couldn’t help but stop at Johnson Estate in Westfield NY, favorite winery to snag some Red Ipocras, a spiced red wine with an intriguing history that we can find nowhere else, and to enjoy a nice visit with Trish swapping travel stories. Then on through wine country, into the Finger Lakes region remembering adventures past, then south of the Adirondacks. At one point we stopped in East Avon at the site where the White Horse Tavern once stood. That’s where our drivers side front tire had an unfortunate encounter with a sharp granite curb so when we arrived in Greenfield we stopped at Tire Warehouse for some excellent service and a new set of tires for Redford. After five years and 100K miles the Michelins served us well and now the truck is well equipped for snowy landscapes. Then we settled in for a three day weekend enjoying the company of our son, assisting in some house projects including organizing the garage to park a vehicle in there. We celebrated our anniversary with a tasty dinner and cocktails/mocktails at The Farm Table in Bernardston MA as well as a breakfast that did not include steak with our eggs at Bonnie B’s the only restaurant open for breakfast in Greenfield MA on Labor Day. Later that day we were joined by grandkiddos at the end of  their fun holiday weekend. We got to see them off this morning to their fourth day of Fifth Grade and Second Grade. Now we’re aboard the Amtrak Vermonter soon to be rolling into Penn Station. Our plan is to Uber to our hotel in the Financial District. Then tomorrow we’ll shoulder our backpacks, walk to Pier 11 and take the Ferry to Redhook. From the ferry it’s a short walk to the cruise terminal to board Queen Mary 2 and make our way to our interior stateroom on Deck 10 where we expect our suitcases to be waiting for us. Then we’ll relax into the joys of a seven day transatlantic voyage delivering us to a wealth of adventure in England, on the continent, and in the Mediterranean. We’ll enjoy some familiar places as well as venture in to situations beyond our comfort zones and plan to come home with a wealth of new travel stories. Life’s an adventure!

Cape Town: African Wildlife Adventures

Cape Town: African Wildlife Adventures

With a UNESCO World Heritage Site, two national parks, dozens of museums, and hundreds of tours offered in the Cape Town area there is more than plenty to do. For our two day visit we opted to concentrate on African wildlife visiting the Aquila Private Game Reserve and the Boulders Beach Penguin Colony for a wonderful chance to these fabulous animals in their own habitat.
