From Penn Station we engaged a driver to take us to the Holiday Inn Express on Water Street just around the corner from the east end of Wall Street. Once we checked in and made our way to the 21st floor we had no trouble finding our room, only one of four on that level! Soon we were out and about making our way to the Old Mates Pub, an Aussie eatery just across from Pier 16. After an amazing meal we wandered the waterfront and scoped out the ferry facilities and had a great conversation with a local at the information desk. Then this morning we donned our backpacks and ventured out for a walk up Wall Street checking out the facades of notable landmarks before heading back to Pier 11 and catching the Brooklyn Ferry to Red Hook/Atlantic Basin. What a lovely ride with views of the Manhattan skyline, the Statue of Liberty, delivering us to our home for the week, the Queen Mary 2. Of all of our overnight stays associated with cruises through the past couple of years, we rank this one as the best yet. We enjoyed our hotel accommodations and the Financial District neighborhood as well as the easy access to the cruise terminal. Also dealing with just backpacks after having our suitcases delivered to our stateroom via Luggage Forward made the whole experience so much better. We think we’ve found a plan worth repeating. Now on to adventures aboard our favorite transatlantic ocean liner as we make our way to London and beyond!
